New life for sugar factory

New life for sugar factory

Warsaw, March 14, 2017

Strabag is modernising the 134-year-old Kuczewo sugar factory in Stargard. The renovation of the plant, which is owned by Krajowa Spółka Cukrowa, should take until January 2018. This will involve the construction of a sugar silo with a capacity of 60,000 tonnes, a handling terminal for vehicles transporting sugar, a rest and refreshment facility as well as access roads. Installations for the processing of raw sugar will also be built. The sugar silo is to be built using the slipform shutter technique – the shuttering is lifted as the work progresses. Each technological stage involves the assembly of the reinforced structure, concrete pouring and concrete curing. The method is over three times faster than climbing shuttering and has a significant effect on the quality of the structure. It also saves time as well as costs for the service and lease of machines. The extension of the sugar factory is being carried out using the ‘design and build’ method. The contractor has twelve months to complete all the work, the technological installations are to be launched before the sugar campaign in September this year.
