Panattoni Europe’s fifth project for Amazon – 135,000-square-metre facility to be built in Sosnowiec

Warsaw, February 20, 2017

Panattoni Europe, Poland’s leader in industrial real estate, is developing a fifth logistics centre for Amazon. The new facility featuring 135,000 sqm is being built in Sosnowiec in the region of Upper Silesia. Completion of the project is planned for October 2017.

The new logistics centre is being built in Sosnowiec in the Upper Silesia region. The property totalling 135,000 sqm will be built on a 21-hectare site near Panattoni Park Sosnowiec I/II. Amazon’s fulfilment centre in Sosnowiec will be adapted to the high-bay storage system and dedicated to the distribution of shoes and clothes in Western Europe. Moreover – like with the previous Panattoni Europe projects for Amazon – the facility will be subject to environmental certification under the BREEAM scheme. Completion of construction works is planned for October 2017.

“Since 2014, Amazon has invested over 2,5 billion PLN, created thousands of full time jobs and encouraged hundreds of Polish sellers to grow their businesses by using Sell on Amazon program. We’re excited to become a member of the Sosnowiec community. We are committed to offering competitive wages, highly attractive benefits, a great working atmosphere, and broad career development opportunities in our fast-growing global organization. We will also be working closely with the most renowned universities in the region in order to attract the brightest graduate talent to become future Amazon leaders” says Steven Harman, Director of European Operations at Amazon.

The investment in Sosnowiec is the fifth project implemented by Panattoni Europe for Amazon in Europe – finished facilities are in operation in Bielany near Wrocław and Sady near Poznań, as well as in the Czech Republic, and another one is under development in Kołbaskowo near Szczecin. The new centre will help meet growing customer demand, further increase its product selection and support more third-party sellers under Fulfillment by Amazon. Robert Dobrzycki, Chief Executive Officer Europe, Panattoni Europe comments: “The new investment by Amazon in Poland is important not only for us as the developer, but also for the whole region. Such a vast undertaking is bound to impact on the growth of Silesia. This is already our fifth joint project, so at Panattoni Europe we are immensely proud to be able to satisfy the requirements of such an innovative and global player as Amazon”.

Amazon’s order fulfilment centre will be situated in Sosnowiec at ul.Innowacyjna, in the vicinity of the already existing facilities, Panattoni Park Sosnowiec I and II. The facility will be next to the S1 expressway and a short distance from the A4 motorway, which makes for convenient connection with the cities of Southern Poland and the rest of the country. The rail Euroterminal Sławków, connecting Europe, Russia and China, is only approx. 10 km away. Upper Silesia also offers a fast-growing network of modern roads and motorways and the proximity of the country’s border.
