Castorama Polska has opened a 50,000 sqm distribution centre in Stryków near Łódź in central Poland with construction work having began in April.
This is the first stage of a 100,000 sqm project which is being built by Panattoni Europe for the DIY/home improvement chain owned by Kingfisher. The second stage of the project is scheduled for 2018. Once it is completed, warehouse space will take up as much as 98.5 pct of the entire park, while 1,450 sqm is to be office and social space for a planned staff of 300 employees.
- The first 50,000 sqm were handed over to the occupier barely 120 days after construction work began. It was an enormous challenge for the Panattoni Europe team, particularly as we have also had to rebuild a junction on the national road no 71 - said Marek Dobrzycki, the managing director Panattoni Europe.
This is not the first time that Panattoni has delivered a project for Castorama – the first of 50,000 sqm was also built in Stryków.
- By opening another distribution centre in Stryków we will be able to make better use of our skills and the international scale of our operations. This investment will help us cut costs and ensure speedy delivery, which will have a positive effect on prices in our stores and ease of purchase - says Krzysztof Maśny, director for supply chain management Castorama Polska.
